Justworks Connection

Making the initial connection to Justworks

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Connecting Justworks to Drata allows for automated checks and evidence collection to provide details on personnel hire and separation dates as well as their employment status.

BEFORE DIVING IN

  • Make sure you have admin access to your company's Justworks account.

  • If you had previously connected Justworks with username and password credentials, these will expire every 90 days. You will need to return to Drata and edit the connection in order to refresh your admin credentials.

    • We recommend you follow the below steps to set up a service account to avoid this 90-day reset requirement.

Connect Justworks to Drata

1. Select Connections on the side navigation menu.

2. Select the Available connections tab, search for Justworks, and select Connect.

The slide-out panel will provide step-by-step instructions (see the image below).

Link your Justworks account

To authenticate your Justworks account, sign in to Justworks and authorize your account during the connection process. For detailed steps, refer to Justworks: How do I link my account?.

Troubleshooting Tips

Sync Failures

If Justworks data isn’t syncing into Drata, the most likely causes are:

  • A broken or interrupted API connection

  • An invalid API token (often missing required permissions)

How to fix:
Reset the Justworks connection in Drata to refresh the link.

API Token Becomes Invalid

API tokens can stop working if:

  • Required scopes were never enabled

  • The token’s owner lost permissions or became inactive

How to fix:
Check the token’s scopes in Justworks and generate a new token with full required permissions if needed.

Integration Won’t Reconnect After a Reset

If reconnecting still fails, it’s usually because:

  • The API token still lacks correct scopes

  • User role changes limit access to Justworks data

How to fix:
Verify the user who created the token still has the correct Justworks role and access level. Contact Justworks support if you’re unsure why the token lost permissions.

Generally, verifying the API token access, missing scopes, or resetting the connection with proper permissions can resolve issues.

If issues persist, Drata Support can help diagnose the root cause, and Justworks Support can confirm the correct permissions needed for your API token.
