TriNet Connection

Making the initial connection to Trinet

Updated over 2 months ago

HERE'S WHY

Connecting TriNet to Drata allows for automated checks and evidence collection to provide details on personnel hire and separation dates as well as their employment status.

BEFORE DIVING IN

  • Make sure you have admin access to your company's TriNet account.

  • "Service Date" is the date the employee started with TriNet and "Effective Date" is the employee's first hire date with the employer. Drata syncs with Effective Date.

HERE'S HOW

Follow these instructions to connect TriNet to Drata:

  • Click on your company's name in the lower left corner.

  • Click "Connections" from that menu.

  • Click the "Connect" button for the TriNet integration.

  • Follow the instructions in the slide-out panel carefully. Take your time and complete one step entirely before moving on to the next.

For this integration, you will need to get access to an API key from TriNet.

Request an API Key

Before connecting TriNet to your desired integration, you must first request an API Key. You must be assigned the TriNet role of “Integration Administrator” or work with someone in your company with the appropriate access.

  • Sign in to TriNet (https://identity.trinet.com/)

  • Navigate to the TriNet Integration Center (Admin • Manger > Integration Center)

  • Select “Get Started” from the “TriNet API” section.

  • Select the applicable integration name from the “Select an Integration” drop-down menu and review the level of access being granted to the API Key before selecting “Accept”.

  • Copy the Company ID, Client ID, and Client Secret. *Do not navigate from this screen until the credentials have been entered in the third-party’s integration page as they cannot be accessed again. Select “OK”

  • Access can be revoked at anytime by selecting “Disconnect” from within “My Connected Apps” (identity.trinet.com > Admin • Manger > Integration Center > My Connected Apps). A new key and secret can be generated by disconnecting and repeating the previous steps.
