DocuSign Connection

This article covers DocuSign Integration for Trust Center.

Updated yesterday

DocuSign is one of the most used solutions for processing and managing NDA documents. This integration allows you to connect your DocuSign account to send an NDA to requesters before they are given access to the private files in Trust Center.

Prerequisites

  • You must have a DocuSign plan that includes the 'Organization Administration' feature enabled. Without this feature, Drata will not be able to send envelopes to requesters on your behalf.

  • The NDA template you use in DocuSign must be a one-way template. Please make sure you have pre-signed the document so only the requester needs to add their signature in DocuSign.

Connect DocuSign

Step 1: Ensure Administrative Access

To set up the connection, you must be an admin in Drata and an Organization Administrator in your DocuSign account.

  1. On the Users page, select the Administrator tab and then select the Add Administrator button.

  2. Enter the required details. Ensure to select Administrator for the Permission Profile.

Step 2: Connect DocuSign to Drata

  1. Go to the Connections page in Drata.

  2. Under Available connections tab, search for DocuSign and connect.

  3. Select Connect your DocuSign account within the drawer. You will be redirected to DocuSign and prompted to complete the Drata connection.

Access level note: After connecting, you can set the access level for the Organization Administrator account to none in DocuSign. However, the following permissions must remain enabled to maintain the connection. You can configure the permission at: https://apps.docusign.com/admin/permission-sets.

  • Permissions:

    • Allow users to send envelopes: Checked

    • Templates: Use

    • Allow view and manage envelope rights through API: Checked

    • Allow send on behalf of other users through API: Checked

Add an NDA in your Trust Center from DocuSign

Before adding the NDA into Drata, set up your NDA template. In DocuSign, when you are setting up your NDA template, in the Add Recipient section, ensure that the Role has the signer option. This will allow Drata to enforce the fields you want placed in the document for the signer.

ℹ️ Note: When updating your NDA template in DocuSign, it is recommended to replace to replace the document within that template, instead of creating a new template. If you delete the template from your DocuSign account, your Trust Center Requests will not go through.

  1. Go to your Trust Center page in Drata and select Settings.

  2. Select the edit icon for the Document access management section. Then, choose the desired configurations.

    • For Set up preferences for Trust Center document access, select Use Docusign for NDA. If you do not have the option or cannot select this option, ensure you have the DocuSign connection setup and connect to Drata.

      • Enter the Template ID of the template you would like to use for your NDA.

Private Access Approval Flow with DocuSign

Now that you have connected DocuSign, when you view a Trust Center Request, you will have the following options: “Deny” or “Approve”.

If you select “Approve”, Drata will automatically send the requester an envelope from DocuSign with your NDA on your behalf. You can track the status of the envelope on that same page.

  • Select NDA Sent to view the status of the envelope from your DocuSign account in a new tab.

  • Drata sends files to the requester once all the signatures have been completed. Then, the status on the approval page is updated.
