Create or Link Jira Tickets in Drata

Create and view Jira tickets for Controls, Tests and Risk Management directly through Drata

Updated this week

Once you integrate Jira, you can create, link, and view Jira tickets for Controls, Tests, and Risks in Risk Management. This helps you manage security compliance tasks that require cross-team coordination.

Note: You cannot create Jira tickets for risks in Risk Assessment.

Prerequisites

  • Integrate Jira with Drata and ensure Write Access is enabled.

  • Required Drata Roles: Admin or Information Security Lead.

  • Verify that you're working in a workspace with an active Jira connection that allows write access.

Create or Link an Existing Jira Ticket in Drata

Note: Make sure you're in a workspace with an active Jira connection. To verify, go to the Connections page and search for Jira in your available connections.

Linking Jira Ticket URL Validation

When you link a Jira ticket, Drata validates that the URL:

  • Is correctly formatted.

  • Points to a valid Jira issue within your connected Jira workspace.

  • Is not already linked to another Risk, Control, or Test.

If any of these conditions are not met, for example, if the URL is invalid, the ticket cannot be found in the Jira workspace you connected to Drata, or the ticket is already linked, Drata displays an error message with context to guide you.

Get Started

  1. Go to one of the following:

    • Controls and select a control, or

    • Monitoring and select a test, or

    • Risk Management and select a risk.

      • Note: You cannot create Jira tickets for risks in Risk Assessment.

  2. Scroll to Ticket management and select Link Ticket.

  3. In the dropdown menu, select:

    • Create Ticket to open a new Jira ticket from Drata

    • Link Existing Ticket and provide the Jira ticket URL to link an existing Jira ticket.

View and Manage Jira Tickets

Drata displays only tickets created within Drata for that specific control, test, or risk.

To view or manage tickets:

  1. Navigate to Controls, Monitoring, or Risk Management and select the relevant item.

  2. Scroll to Ticket Management. The most recent ticket appears at the top.

  3. Each ticket displays: Summary, Alias, and Jira issue key.

You can:

  • View ticket details

  • Download a PDF of the ticket

  • Remove the ticket from Drata (this does not delete the ticket in Jira; you must delete it there manually).

  • Open the ticket in Jira by selecting Manage Ticket

  • Select View All Tickets to see all associated tickets

Ticket Statuses

To view all associated tickets, select View All Tickets.

  • In Progress: Tasks in any open state as defined in your Jira instance (e.g., Ready for Development, In Progress).

  • Closed: Tasks in any completed state as defined in your Jira instance (e.g., Closed, Done).
