HERE'S WHY

Connecting your Slack workspace allows you to notify channels about Not Ready Controls as well as personnel with pending compliance tasks.

BEFORE DIVING IN

Please make sure you have permission to install the Drata app in your workspace. To learn about Slack app permissions, click here.

NOTE: Slack Workspace Owners can turn on app approval to require admin approval for all apps. Members can install any apps approved by a Workspace Owner, and may be able to request approval for other apps. If an app has been restricted, members cannot install or request approval for it. Drata recommends that your Slack Workspace Owner approve and install the Drata app.

HERE'S HOW

Connecting Slack to Drata

  • Navigate to the Drata portal and login

  • In the bottom left of your screen, click on 'Connections’

  • Scroll down until you get to the ‘Communication’ section -> ‘Slack’ -> Click on ‘Connect your Slack workspace’

  • If logged into multiple workspaces, choose the correct one

    • Note: Drata can only connect to one Slack workspace

  • Review the Drata app permissions (please check the below image for full list) and install the app

Adding Channels

Our Slack app was designed with least permissions in mind. For this reason, you must invite the Drata bot to channels you want to be available in Company Notifications.

To invite the Drata app to a Channel:

  • Navigate to the channel in Slack

  • Copy and paste the following command in the message field and press Enter twice

    /invite @Drata

Alternatively, you may go through the following steps to add Drata to your channel:

  • Navigate to the channel in Slack

  • Click on the channel name at the top of the Slack screen

  • Click on ‘Integrations’ tab then ‘Add an App’

  • Add the Drata app to the channel

  • You’ll now be able to add this channel through the Configuring a new notification steps below

Setting up Control Notification

Control Notification allows you to be notified if control(s) are not ready. To set up control notification, click on your name in the bottom left, then settings, and select 'Notifications.’

  • At the top right, click on ‘+ New Notification’

  • Select the Controls you wish to be notified about

  • Select the Channels you wish to notify, see above for Adding Channels

    • Note: If you followed the steps in Adding Channels and still don't see your channels, you need to refresh this page for your channels to show up

  • Select your desired frequency

Note: with daily frequency, notifications are sent at 6am PT every day including weekends and with weekly, notifications are sent on Monday's at 6am PT

  • Click on ‘Schedule Notification’

Control Notification behavior

  • At the scheduled interval, Drata will check the status of all selected Controls

  • If any are Not Ready during the check, you will receive a notification like this:

Set up Notification for Personnel with Pending Tasks

When this option is enabled, you will receive a list of personnel with pending compliance tasks at your selected channel. You may also choose to directly notify personnel with missing tasks. To set up personnel notification, click on your company's logo and select 'Company Notifications’

When this option is enabled, you will receive a list of tests with an “Error” result at your selected channel.
